Skincare For Men - The Basics

There was a man whose skincare routine was a razor and bar of soap.

Do you know someone like him?
Luckily, it seems that more and more men have come to the skincare party, educating themselves (sometimes with the help of their significant other) and using products that pamper their skin.

If you or someone your know is still baffled by a skincare routine for men,  follow these basic tips to nourish and pamper the skin:

Cleansing doesn't have to be harsh. Choose a cleanser that will remove the dirt and debris from your skin, but not strip it. Your skin should feel soft, not dry and tight. Do this morning and night.

A toner returns the skin to  the proper pH after cleansing. Some toners also refresh and rehydrate. Toning preps the skin for the moisturizer. Do this morning and night.

Although shaving is a form of exfoliation, using an exfoliant such as a scrub helps lift deep down dirt and debris that simple cleansing missed. Also, using an exfoliant prior to shaving could help soften and lift the hair and prepare the skin for a closer shave. Using an exfoliant will also prepare the skin to receive moisturizers or serums. Do this twice a week after Cleansing and before Toning.

To moisturize simply means to hydrate. For those men with oily skin, don't skip this step. Simply choose an oil-free moisturizer or even a oil-absorbing lotion. Look for moisturizers with an added Sunblock SPF for added protection. Finish each skincare routine with this step twice a day.

For the skincare newbie, try one of these kits. Everything you need comes in one package, with enough product for an entire month. This will give you enough time to see a noticeable difference in your skin and to find products that will fit your needs.
