Eye Contact-How to See the Beauty You May Be Missing

Have you noticed people don't look each other in the eye anymore?

We are busy. We are thinking about the next task. We are too busy looking at our smart phones, computer screens, or bleary-eyed from the like.

Have we lost our ability to connect in the simplest way? Are we missing the beauty in the world around us?

I have a challenge for you.

Give the next person you meet, face-to-face,  a good, long look. Right in the eyes. Just stare at them. And smile while you do it. Make incredible eye contact that lasts for more than a second. Make it 5 seconds. Or 10 seconds. Go ahead. It won't hurt.

After you accept my challenge, I would love to know the outcome. Can you comment and let me know?

Did it feel uncomfortable to you? To the other person?
Did you laugh out loud? Did you receive a smile back?

Seeing the beauty around us requires that we lift our eyes and look. So the next time you have the opportunity, really LOOK at someone. Make eye contact and smile. I dare you.

  1. The guy across my table didn't like the idea of me staring at him. No I did not get a smile from him, just a confused look. For some reason, some don't like to be ogled and looked in the eye! I don't think I'm not that unattractive.

  2. I don't think some people are accustomed to others being genuine and giving them respect by looking them in the eye. I am sure it had nothing to do with your looks, beautiful! But I guarantee you made an impression. Keep up the positivity!
